The Best Western Pacific Grove is the Best of the Best Western Hotels
The Best Western Pacific Grove is the Best? Really? A Best Western? You mean, that hotel brand your grandparents stay at when they take their RV across country?
When my Mom and I took our California wine tasting road-trip in February, right before the quarantine, we were traveling for 10 days. We’re the types to leave town quite often, so I’m always looking for a good lodging deal. My Mom and I are capable of roughing it a bit (me more than her) but we do prefer to stay in nicer places.
My standard go-to is a Hilton, a DoubleTree or a good Embassy Suites for the omelet bar breakfast (yum!). I also have Hilton gold status from my Husband’s American Express Platinum Card, and my step-father works for a hotel company that builds, managers, and sells independently owned hotels and Hilton specific properties, so I have a friend’s and family. Hence, the Hilton loyalty. Yet, I thought the Best Western Pacific Grove met my Hilton standards for a more casual stay.
The Best Western Inn & Suites Pacific Grove, California
Ok, so now that you have a tiny glimpse into my hotel standards, I hope that provides some validity to my statement that the Best Western Inn & Suites Pacific Grove is the best of the Best Westerns. I hear there’s another comparable quality Best Western in the Florida Keys, but I’ve only stayed in this one. So far, this the Best Western in Pacific Grove is the best i’ve ever stayed in.
The only “meh” part of the experience was the check-in. I’m 35, but I can look younger when I have a pony-tail and put little care into my attire and makeup, which I did that day. I can tell when people are treating me like I’m a kid who may be irresponsible, and she looked at me through that lens and made a couple comments about noise and times to keep quiet. I guess they must get some crazier people sometimes. She also booked us in the room right above the office, which I thought was funny.
We has a room on the top floor. It was the only time on the trip where my Mom and I shared a King bed vs having our own Queen or Double. She likes to set-up the international space station of iPads, phones, and computers on the bed, so I regretted that quickly.
The room at this Best Western Pacific Grove was beautiful! We had a fireplace, wood beams, a huge closet, and a patio with access to outside. It was quiet and it was only a 12 minute drive to Carmel by the Sea and 15 minutes to Monterey. Given that we spent $90 a night on the weekend and the other hotels in the Monterey / Carmel region were either very expensive or in shitty areas, this was really nice.
The Best Western Pacific Grove is not within walking distance to anything, and it’s smack-dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood. That did seem a little odd, but should bother the neighbors more than the hotel-stayers. There’re coffee-shops, fast food, and grocery stores within a 5 minute drive, and traffic is quite calm. The Best Western Pacific Grove would make a great family hotel or a hotel off the beaten path for R&R. I do wish this best Western was pet friendly though. I live in Berkeley, CA and it’s just far enough when I visit Carmel, Monterey, and Pacific Grove that I need to get a hotel, and I’ll usually bring my dog vs putting him up in a kennel… especially since everywhere else is dog friendly and we can take him wine tasting in Carmel-by-the-Sea etc with us.
The drive into Pacific Grove has a winding road, but it’s only about 5 minutes of that. The Best Western Pacific Grove is worth the short winding ride.
