Recess CBD Sparkling Water Beverage Review; The La Croix or Pellegrino for Stress Management
Recess CBD Sparkling Water Review
I jumped on the La Croix and flavored Pellegrino bandwagon just as we all did, and I soon after discovered CBD and Adaptogens to help with my stress management. There have even been studies done on adaptogens and their benefits on the nervous system. Why not combine them for the super-power all three can be? CBD, adaptogens, and hydration… Well, that’s exactly what you get with Recess CBD Sparkling Water Beverage.
I first discovered CBD Sparkling Waters on a ski-trip with family in Oregon in February, 2020. Yes, this was weeks before quarantine began and the stress we were all about to feel set in. My first CBD sparkling water discovery was actually DayTrip. I’m not partial to either DayTrip of Recess and I actually like the variety of flavors both brands provide me. The mission is ultimately to chill out and relax. We can all use a little relaxation and small enjoyments at home these days.
My discovery of adaptogens actually happened later in 2020, mostly by necessity to find anything to help me relax and destress. You can read more about the adaptogen discovery here. I’ve been adding CBD supplements like FOCL CBD Fruit Chews, CBD tincture like FOCL CBD Drops, and CBD lotions. Load me up with anything that will bring my mind down! It’s safe to say, I’m all in on the CBD products. So, why not CBD soda waters and CBD beverages too, right?
I’ve generally been an anxious person my whole life, and I’ve also suffered through fits of depression, so making time for meditation, yoga, trading massages with my Husband, getting puppy love from my adorable dog and making sure I get a good hike or bike-ride in are all so important. Making sure I’m eating the right foods and maintaining a balanced botanical diet are all essential too.
Here’s what I LOVE about Recess CBD Sparkling Water:
The flavors are delicious and they’ve managed to deliver delicious flavors that are 100% natural. That’s really hard to do! Even my favorite flavored teas often use a tad artificial flavoring.
They managed to get the number of THC to 0% which is really hard to do and most CBD products have a tad THC in them. Legally, products need to be less than 0.3% THC to be sold nationally in the United States according to the FDA.
There’s 10mg of Hemp CBD extract in one can of Recess CBD Sparkling Water Beverage, which is a solid amount of CBD.
Recess CBD Sparkling Water also adds adaptogens to add to the balanced feeling. Adaptogens include American Ginseng, L-theanine, and Lemon Balm.
Recess is headquartered in New York, with roots in Los Angeles, and the Founder and CEO Ben Witte also has associations with San Francisco. I love when a little of the West Coast chill culture makes its way out East. Plus, I’ve lived in San Francisco for 6 years and I now own a home in Berkeley, CA. I’m all about that West Coast culture.
Adaptogens help me feel not tired, but not wired. Crashing and energy spikes are always something I have to be cautious of. A little caffeine goes a long way with me, and I have a sweet tooth. Anything to help those spikes and valleys is nice.
As someone that has Recruited for Design and Creatives for a long time, including working at frog Design, I really value sexy branding and design and Recess CBD Sparkling Water has a very distinctly cool branding and image. I admit, I’m a sucker for great packaging and color usage, but never at the expense of product quality. Recess has both!
Review of Recess CBD Sparkling Water Beverage Flavors:
Recess has 6 CBD sparkling water beverage flavors, and you can try all 6 in a perfect little sampler package if you’re new to the CBD sparkling water beverage scene. Recess flavors include Recess Coconut Lime, Recess Peach Ginger, Recess Blood Orange, Recess Pomegranate Hibiscus, Recess Black Cherry and Recess Blackberry Chai.
(1) Recess Peach Ginger
Flavor one, Recess Sparkling Water Review: I personally love peach flavored beverages and candies, but only when the peach flavor isn’t overwhelming. Peach rings were my absolute favorite candy as a kid and on road trips in my early 20’s. The Recess Peach Ginger is subtle and gentle. The ginger is also subtle and not that spicy kind of ginger you can sometimes get in ginger beers (which I actually crave sometimes). The peach nectar and peach-ginger tea infusion in this sparkling water beverage has notes of hibiscus, rosehip, ginger, apple, chicory root and peaches. I paired this CBD sparkler with the HealthAde Belly Reset Kombucha that has a much more distinct ginger punch and pineapple notes. It made a fantastic mid-work-day mocktail for stress management and immunity support.
(2) Recess Pomegranate Hibiscus
Flavor two, Recess Sparkling Water Review: This herbal tea infusion is made with dried hibiscus, ginger, lemongrass, pomegranate and lemon juice concentrates. If you’re looking for that tart drink that a lemon or a lime drink can bring, this is your drink. If you’ve ever had a POM pomegranate juice, imagine that mixed with sparkling water, lemon, lemongrass and hibiscus. The Recess Pomegranate Hibiscus is perhaps one of the most aromatic of the sparkling water bunch. This one is a cult favorite for a reason. It’s very friendly and not polarizing in its flavor profile.
(3) Recess Coconut Lime
Flavor three, Recess Sparkling Water Review: This is the tropical CBD sparkling water beverage of the Recess brand. I grew up in Key West, and it reminds me of a combo of Key Lime Pie and Coconut Cream Pie, due to the delicate balance of lime and coconut with hints of vanilla cream. It’s very close to the La Croix Key Lime Sparkling water flavor… Not to be confused with the La Croix Lime classic that most people have had. The Key Lime one is different, and this Recess reminds me of that. The lime is more present than the coconut. This can makes me want to put on some Jimmy Buffet on my patio and chill on a sunny day, and I now live in Berkeley, CA.
(4) Recess Blood Orange
Flavor four, Recess Sparkling Water Review: This Recess CBD Sparkling Water Beverage is your citrus go-to. If you’re a fan of the La Croix Pamplemousse (aka Grapefruit) then you may like this CBD sparkling alternative. It’s similar, with the same bite as the La Croix version, but blood orange flavor instead of grapefruit. Orange is all over in this one though… Orange zest, orange flavor, blood orange, with a touch of pear. Recess Blood Orange is a friendly transitioner.
(5) Recess Blackberry Chai
Flavor five, Recess Sparkling Water Review: This sparkling CBD water beverage flavor is for the most refined palates. If you’re the kind of person that can taste subtle flavors in coffees, smell notes in wines, and love a good chai tea, Blackberry Chai is your jam. Did I mention is’s like a spiced jam? Allspice, anise and cinnamon come through on the nose. I think you could even mix this with a beautiful pinot noir to make a Summer muddled wine / wine spritzer combo. Recess Blackberry Chai is hands down my favorite flavor Recess CBD sparkling beverages offers.
(6) Recess Black Cherry
Flavor six, Recess Sparkling Water Review: Cherry, cherry and more cherry… That’s all that’s in this CBD sparkling water beverage, and that’s all you’re going to get on the nose and palate. Due to the flavors being an infusion of tea before being mixed into a sparkling water, the tea aspect does bring a bit of that cola aspect to it. Think black cherry sparkling water, but with subtle notes of cherry cola. Ummm… yes. Black Cherry brings me back to my grandparents house in the Summer in Oregon. Just so many memories in this CBD sparkling water can.
What are adaptogens and why did Recess add them in their Sparkling Water?
Adaptogens are derived from non-toxic plants. They help the body defend against stressors of all kinds, whether physical, chemical or biological. There have even been studies on adaptogens and their effect on the nervous system.
If you’re into health in general, you may have been targeted by ads on Instagram and Facebook by popular adaptogen brands. Honestly, 2020/2021 is the time to cash in on this much needed stress-relieving tool.
Ways you can use CBD products and CBD sparkling water in your life:
CBD sparkling water mocktails for those with alcoholism or anyone that simply wants a mid-day mocktail without the buzz
CBD for stress management
CBD sparkling water beverage for adaptogen delivery
CBD sparkling water for immune support
CBD creams for back pain, arthritis and body pains
CBD sparkling water for hydration and to switch up the mundane
CBD for depression, CBD for anxiety or the general COVID-19 blues
So so so much more!
Final Thoughts…
I love my Recess CBD Sparkling Water, but there are a few things you must know in advance. First, you have to look at the pricing medicinally and not like a replacement for La Croix or Pellegrino. Yes, I use my SodaStream less and I drink less plain canned soda waters, but the price for CBD canned soda water can range from $3.50 to $6.00 a can retail. It’s MUCH more costly than soda water, but it’s medicinal.
Also, CBD is fat-soluble which means these waters have oil in them. It’s minimal and the bubbles help distribute the oil evenly. There is a slight oil film left in your mouth. It’s very subtle but I don’t want it to surprise you if you’re not used to it, as plain water has absolutely no oil.
If you don’t like one flavor, don’t give up on all CBD Sparkling Water Beverages. Recess has Coconut Lime, Blood Orange, Black Cherry, Peach Ginger, Pomegranate Hibiscus and Blackberry Chai. Recess isn’t the only CBD soda water in town too, even though they are fantastic and one of my favorites!
If you’re new to Recess CBD Sparkling Water Beverages, I recommend trying The Sampler which has one of each flavor in the six-pack and two of each flavor in the twelve-pack / CBD soda water case.
