Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper Review: Is It Soft, Strong, Priced Well?
Is Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper soft, strong, and priced in comparably to Charmin and other TP? I’ll go over all of that here in my Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper Review!
It’s no surprise that we’ve all been spending more time at home these days, and with that comes an evaluation of the comfort and consumption of goods. Typically, I head to Costco and throw that large-ass (haha...couldn’t resist) toilet paper package into my cart, and my Husband and I are good for months. I actually haven’t put much thought into my toilet paper consumption until the TP shortage in 2020. Then, quality didn’t matter. We just wanted some butt-wipe.
Before 2020, I did have some experience with evaluating toilet paper quality though. For women, the chemicals and bleaching process for toilet paper can cause an unbalanced pH and lead to vaginal infections. Not a lot of women know this. Please read the study on the topic here if you’re interested in learning more.
I live in Berkeley, CA and I used to live in San Francisco, CA for 6 years. My last two jobs were also in San Francisco. Grove Collaborative is a San Francisco company, and I typically gravitate to supporting California and Bay Area companies. We pay such high state taxes in California that I like to support the local businesses, even if they’re national or global companies. Also, Prop 65 and the general public in California care about quality products and what goes into them. We also care about what we’re putting out into the world. Ironically, we’re ok with getting everything delivered to our door (even pre-covid)... Yes, I’m aware of the irony.
I came across Grove Collaborative when I decided to write a full review and evaluation of green household cleaning products. I purchased from a few brands and did a very thorough and comprehensive review. I’m now quite loyal to Grove Collaborative with a few of their products. The Grove bamboo toilet paper wasn’t something I was expecting to try, and now I believe it’ll be a regular item in our household.
Let’s delve into the review… I’m going to evaluate the Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper on these five following points… Softness, Strength, Roll Length, Health, Price.
How Soft is Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper?
At the initial glance, the Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper does have the appearance of most cheaper toilet papers. It has that gray/white look and it doesn’t have that micro-fuzzy-dusty softness…. BUT… It’s actually quite soft.
I have a toilet paper stand in my bathroom, and every month, I have to take my Swiffer to the area to collect all the Charmin dust. With Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper, I don’t have to do that. There’s no micro-fuzz. It’s still very soft, but without the residue. No chafing at all!
How Strong is Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper?
It’s actually very strong! It’s three-ply and the paper never ever splits anywhere except the pre-cut areas. When I pull on the roll, it will only cut along the tabs because the paper is strong. I’ve never had a moment where anything has leaked through or broken the toilet paper… Sorry for the details, but we’re talking TP here!
How Long Does One Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper Last?
These bamboo toilet paper rolls last around 1.5x a Charmin double roll. I’ve gone a week before with my Husband and me before replacing a roll. I’m actually quite surprised at the length of each roll and how much fits on there while still being strong and soft.
Grove states that their bamboo roll has 20% more toilet paper than other bamboo rolls. One roll is 44.4 sq ft.
How Healthy for Humans and the Environment are Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper Rolls?
The Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper is made from pesticide-free and panda-friendly bamboo! There are no trees involved in the actual TP, although it comes in a cardboard box and the roll itself is cardboard. The box is to reduce plastic usage and for every 100 toilet paper rolls sold by Grove Seedling, Grove will plant a tree. The products are made in China, but it states “Responsibly made in China.” The Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper is completely septic and sewer friendly.
Why bamboo vs trees? bamboo takes about 3 months to grow back after harvesting and trees take about 20 years. Grove’s bamboo is panda-friendly, meaning it is not a source of food for panda bears.
How is Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper Priced in Comparison to Major Toilet Paper Brands?
The price for Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper comes out to around $1.12 per roll. Considering it has 20% more length than other bamboo toilet paper and lasts 1.5x a Charmin Double Roll, it’s comparable in price. 24 Rolls is $26.95 and that lasts us the same amount of time as 36 Charmin rolls. All in all, that’s around the same price as Costco. It may be a couple dollars cheaper for Charmin at Costco, but with a much larger environmental impact.
Final Thoughts…
Will I never buy Charmin again at Costco? No, I still will, but only when it makes sense and placing a Grove order doesn’t fit at the time. Will I try to buy Grove Collaborative Seedling Bamboo Toilet Paper more often? Absolutely! I believe Grove Collaborative Bamboo TP is our primary toilet paper source from now on.
And guess what? Grove is offering a fantastic gift with purchase!
