Brooklinen Bedding vs Quince Sheets Review: 3+ Months In & Many Washes

Brooklinen vs Quince: Brooklinen Bedding and Sheets, and Quince Linen Review and Comparison:

Are you looking at both Brooklinen sheets and Quince sheets and wondering which are best for your needs and for the cost? In this review, I’ll break down my experience, and additionally, I’ve done more research on both Brooklinen bedding and Quince sheets so you don’t have to.

Typical to the American consumer way, I heard about Brooklinen sheets from many advertising channels and caved into a holiday sale. I also had a credit card offer, so don’t forget to check those out before making a big purchase. Sometimes the stars align and tip the scales!

At first touch the Brooklinen sheets didn’t feel as soft as I thought they would. I popped them in the washer and dryer, and that concern soon subsided. The Brooklinen sheets came out of the dryer crisp, fluffy and soft.

Please don’t ever use sheets right out of the box. They’ve come from a dusty factory. My husband was surprised when I told him this…lol

Brooklinen bedding offers many options for sheets and bundles. From my perspective, there are two main options for the standard cotton or cotton blend sheets and those are the Brooklinen Classic Hardcore Sheet Bundle and the Sateen Brooklinen Luxe Hardcore Sheet Bundle. I sprung for the Brooklinen Sateen Sheets as they weren’t much more in comparison to the price point we were already at, and I’ve heard this set is the premier option until you get into the super spendy options (more right below on that).

Because the Brooklinen bedding bundles come with sheet sets including pillowcases, and an additional set of two, I was at 4 of 6 pillows covered on my bed. This is where I decided to try out the Quince Linen Pillowcases.

Now, I’m aware that we’re not comparing apples for apples here. I would’ve had to get the Brooklinen Linen Hardcore Sheet Bundle in addition to the Quince Linen Pillowcases to compare linens. Nonetheless, I can provide some perspective on what I do like and don’t like on bedding items purchased from Brooklinen and Quince.

The pricing can get quite up there when you go for the more premium Brooklinen bedding bundles. However, the Classic Hardcore and Luxe Hardcore Sheet Bundle, along with the Flannel Hardcore Sheet Bundles come with a lot for the price-point. Especially if you can nab them on a sale, and considering that there’s a bit of a premium for quality of textiles and ethical and environmental business practices.

Usually these things come at a cost. The more we purchase items like these over others, we can force the market to demand more ethical products and it’ll drive costs lower over time. Even seeing Brooklinen available at this price point is showing that things are starting to change and shift that way.

Quince bedding offerings are a little more broad than Brooklinen Bedding. In addition to the above offerings sprinkled above in comparison with the Brooklinen overview, you can also check out:

  1. Quince Bamboo Sheets

  2. Quince Luxe Italian Cotton Hotel Sheet

  3. Quince Tencel Jersey Sheets

  4. Quince Mulberry Silk Sheets

Why did I choose the Brooklinen Luxe Hardcore Sheet Bundle?

To put it bluntly, I thought it was the best bang for my buck with Brooklinen bedding. The Flannel Hardcore Sheet Bundle is the same price. Flannel is so cozy, but it’s one season. Also, I feel like flannel wears down faster in my experience. Perhaps that’s because I’ve purchased only the cheaper $40 flannel sheet sets from Target and I’ve never sprung for the good stuff.

On that note, I seem to think of flannel sheets as not worth the extra spend. It’s kinda like wine for me. Flannel sheets are like white wine. I know I can always count on a good $20 bottle and you’ll never catch me buying a white wine more than $40 (with the exception of bubbles of course). Red wine, I have no problem with splurging on a good bottle. Flannel sheets are like my white wine, or my Target $40 end aisle purchase.

I love the idea of Linen, but that’s also seasonal, and much more expensive. Heathered cashmere sounds like a dream. Things to aspire for next time. I also think this whole endeavor was a bit of a gamble, and I wasn’t going all in with the top tier purchase with Brooklinen bedding the first go around.

The Classic Hardcore Sheet Bundle seems like a good deal, and it was only a small amount more to go Luxe. So, that’s how I decided on the Luxe Hardcore Sheet Bundle. They also seem to be one of the most commonly purchased options.

What do I like about the Brooklinen Luxe Hardcore Sheet Bundle:

  1. These Brooklinen sheets are soft. As stated by the brand, they did get softer with washes.

  2. They feel similar to nice hotel sheets.

  3. Strangely, they don’t feel as dirty on day six or seven before they get washed as other sheets I’ve had in the past. I’m sure they’re just as dirty. They just don’t feel it.

  4. The Luxe Hardcore Sheets are lightweight, but seem like they may be durable. The true test is if they make it about 18 months of use, which is what I expect out of sheets.

  5. The thin and lightweight nature makes them breathable.

  6. The pillowcases have envelope enclosures.

  7. Brooklinen marks the long and short side of the bed sheets with tiny tags. This is SO useful with a King bed.

  8. The fitted sheets are taught on the bed. No extra slack, which is beautiful!

  9. The duvet stays on our silk-fill comforter pretty well. Much better than our previous Crate and Barrel one, which was a high end brand with a high thread count. I’ll elaborate more on this below.

  10. The bedding deems to be holding up well so far, after 3+ months of use and weekly washing.

  11. The graphite color doesn’t highlight my dog’s lighter hairs too much. yes, they’re visible, but only when focusing in on them.

What I don’t like about the Brooklinen Luxe Hardcore Sheet Bundle:

  1. If you purchase a King or California King, you won’t be able to select two of the four pillowcases. Two of them will automatically be the King size. We have a King bed, and less King size pillows so this affected us.

  2. The sheets tend to wrinkle easily. If you don’t pull them out of the dryer immediately, these Brooklinen sheets will wrinkle a lot and the top fold of the sheet will never get its crease back without ironing. I refuse to iron my sheets.

  3. I got used to double elastic fitting on my fitted sheets prior to Brooklinen, and these sheets don’t have that. I miss it.

  4. If you put the King sheets on wrong (despite the fact they have tags to help) the sheets will ride up. I made this mistake twice already. My last sheets I didn’t have to care if I put them on right as they never rode up…lol

  5. I still think the non-sale pricing is a tad high. I feel like the duvet was absolutely worth it, and the mission and environmental impact is too. Most consumers will purchase on price and feel alone and those two factors need to come a little closer with offerings like Target and Walmart.

What do I think about the Quince Linen Pillowcases?

I really do like them! I felt they were quite spendy. I got two of the Quince European Linen Pillowcases in Standard, and another set in King. It was $99 total before tax. The Quince European Linen Pillowcases in Standard are $39.90 for a set of two, and the King Pillowcases are $49.90. I know this pricing is considered better than premier retailers. It’s still more than I’ve ever spent on 4 pillowcases at any given time.

I do wish there was an envelope enclosure, especially at this price point. This may be the case with all Linen pillowcases though, and just a style/design thing that’s not available.

They did feel a bit stiff when they arrived. Again, the problem was fixed with one wash and they are soft and wonderful after a few months. My husband prefers these pillowcases over the cotton ones. I still prefer the cotton ones from Brooklinen.

For me, these are the pillows that go behind the pillows that we actually use. When I make the bed everyday, the linen draped pillow on my husband’s side always makes its way to the front. Decoratively, it looks better the way I have them arranged. It’s split for the preference on what we like to sleep on. And the pillows are the same, just in case you were wondering.

I ordered Charcoal in the Quince European Linen Pillowcases, along with the Graphite Duvet from Brooklinen in the Luxe Hardcore Bundle. Is it an exact color match? No. Is it pretty close? Yes. very close. Especially with the white sheets in between and our leather and teak wood bed from CB2. It looks really nice!

Brooklinen vs Quince

Brooklinen Sheets vs Quince Bedding Overview:

Material: Quince sheets and Brooklinen sheets are both made of 100% long-staple cotton, unless you purchase a non-cotton option such as linen or cashmere. Quince Linen sheets are made from 100% European flax linen, and Brooklinen Linen is made from 100% Belgian flax linen.

Brooklinen bedding sources its cashmere from Inner Mongolia, which is known for producing some of the world's highest quality cashmere. Brooklinen partners with suppliers who prioritize the welfare of their animals and who use sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices to produce their cashmere. Brooklinen bedding also ensures that their suppliers adhere to strict labor standards and that the workers who produce their cashmere are treated fairly and paid a living wage.

Quince makes bamboo sheets, and their organic bamboo bed sheets are crafted from the finest 100% viscose from organic bamboo which is one of the planet's most resource-efficient materials.

If you want to go the premium route, Quince also makes Mulberry Silk sheets. There tends to be a waitlist for these as making sustainable silk takes time.

Thread Count: Quince sheets have a thread count of 400, while Brooklinen sheets have a thread count of either 280 or 480. Brooklinen bedding doesn’t focus on thread count as much as other sheet brands.

Durability: Both Quince sheets and Brooklinen sheets are known for their durability, but the higher thread count of Quince sheets may make them slightly more durable over time.

Softness: Both Quince bedding and Brooklinen sheets are known for their softness. I’ve found the Luxe Sheets and Duvet from Brooklinen and the Quince Linen both very soft.

Price: Both Brooklinen and Quince are considered to be priced well for the quality and being mission driven bedding companies. Quince doesn’t really run sales, although they do offer a loyalty rewards program and promos sometimes for bulk purchases on select items.

Brooklinen bedding does often run great sales. I recommend playing around with options on both sites and looking at reviews. Also check your credit cards to see if either Quince or Brooklinen bedding are offering rewards or money back. I’ve used credit card rewards for both!

Returns and Exchanges: Quince bedding offers a 60-day return policy, while Brooklinen bedding offers a 365-day return policy.

Reviews and Awards: Both Quince sheets and Brooklinen sheets have mostly positive customer reviews, with some people preferring the durability of Quince sheets and others preferring the variety of options offered by Brooklinen bedding. The sateen with Brooklinen sheets have been reviewed as being a bit slippery, or smooth, which can take some getting used to. Regarding Quince linens, some reviewers have noted that the sheets may be a bit stiff when they are first taken out of the package, but that they soften up with use and washing over time.

Overall, Quince bedding and Brooklinen bedding are both high-quality options that are known for their durability, softness, environmental impact (or lack thereof), and cost effectiveness for the premium quality.

How do Quince and Brooklinen Compare in Regards to Environmental Impact?

The Environmental Impact of Quince Linens:

  • Quince cotton sheets are made of 100% long-staple cotton, which is a natural and biodegradable fiber and their linens are made from 100% European flax linen, which is known for its softness and durability.

  • Quince states on their website that they use eco-friendly packaging, including biodegradable plastic and recycled paper.

  • Quince is a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, which is a group of apparel and footwear companies working to reduce the environmental impact of the industry.

  • Quince makes their sheets using windmill-powered green energy.

  • Quince sheets are also OEKO-TEX certified for chemical safety.

  • Quince offers sheet sets with pillowcases and fitted sheets without the top sheet as those wear much faster - no need to replace the whole sheet set every time!

The Environmental Impact of Brooklinen Sheets:

  • Brooklinen sheets are made of 100% long-staple cotton, linen, or a blend of the two. Both cotton and linen are natural and biodegradable fibers.

  • Brooklinen states on their website that they use recycled and recyclable materials in their packaging and shipping materials.

  • Brooklinen is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative, which is a group that promotes sustainable cotton farming practices.

  • Brooklinen sheets are also OEKO-TEX certified for chemical safety.

Both Quince and Brooklinen appear to be taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint through the use of natural and biodegradable materials and eco-friendly packaging.

Beyond material and packaging, there’s a lot more than goes into the environmental impact such as energy use in the production, transportation, and disposal of sheets.

If you're interested in finding more environmentally-friendly bedding options via production practices and a shorter supply chain within North America, you may want to look into companies that make linens and sheets in the USA or Canada. Scroll down just a little to find my recommendations on “Made in America” bedding, sheets and linens brands.

Where are Quince Sheets and Linens Made?

Quince sheets are made in India, according to the company's website.

Where are Brooklinen Sheets and Linens Made?

It is not explicitly outlined on the Brooklinen website where their bedding materials are made. It’s likely that without an explicit “Made in America” claim, they are produced in India or another country in South Asia where there’s a prominent textile industry. This is of course a deduction from the information on hand.

If you’re looking for sheets and linens specifically made in the USA, here’s a list of other companies to check out:

  • Coyuchi: This company offers a range of organic cotton bedding and home textiles that are made in the USA.

  • Parachute: This company offers a variety of bedding and home textiles, including sheets and towels, that are made in the USA.

  • Boll & Branch: This company offers a range of organic cotton bedding and home textiles that are made in the USA.

  • American Blossom Linens: This company specializes in luxury linens made from 100% American-grown cotton. They offer sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and other bedding and home textiles at a variety of price points.

  • The Company Store: This company offers a variety of bedding and home textiles that are made in the USA, including sheets, comforters, and pillows.

I’ve never purchased from any of these companies, and I can only attest to my experience with Brooklinen Bedding and Quince Bedding per this review. I do know the importance of supporting American workers and companies, so I wanted to include these options for you to review.

I’ve been using Blueland’s natural Laundry Detergent, Oxy Booster, and Wool Dryer Balls on my Brooklinen Bedding and Quince Sheets and Pillowcases.

One thing I really like about Quince Sheets that no one else is doing!

Have you ever worn down your sheets to the point of getting a hole in them? Have you ever used them to the point where they felt really worn down?

It’s likely that if you’re saying yes, it’s the fitted sheet that has taken the major hit, along with the pillowcases. Those pieces get the brunt of our nightly kicks, turns, sweats (as gravity goes down), body oils and all the other “stuff” that happens in beds. ;)

The top sheet touches our bodies for sure, but it kinda floats on top. It’s likely that you could use the same top sheet for two cycles (if not three) of wear of the bottom sheet and pillowcases.

I can’t count how many times I’ve tried to donate or give away top sheets that I felt were in good shape because the fitted sheets and pillowcases were done.

Quince has helped solve that problem with sheet sets that include (1) one fitted sheet and (2) two pillow cases. Pretty cool hu?

Here’s a list of Quince’s no-top sheet sets (called the “Fitted Sheet Set”):

My Final Thoughts on My Brooklinen and Quince Purchases:

I really love the deal we got on our sheets and duvet from Brooklinen bedding, and the linen pillowcases from Quince are divine as well.

Knowing what I know now, I would’ve been more thoughtful on the color selection of our duvet and not have fallen completely into the trap of the holiday sale. The only items available were standard colors, and Graphite with our leather backboard and teak is sleek, but leans a little masculine. I could add some nice throw pillows, but they’ll just end up on the floor 95% of the time, so I won’t.

Our prior duvet was very light in color which is likely why the extreme change seems so extreme, and our bed is a king so it’s a lot of dark gray. However, our blanket does seem to stay inside of the duvet and not shift as much as our prior duvet. Major plus!

The sheets are cozy and don’t feel like I want to wash them on day 5 like I usually do. I’m content. The sheets don’t feel as substantial as others I’ve had. The duvet does though. Over all, I’m truly happy with the purchase from both places. I’ll report back in 2024 when the honeymoon stage is over, although I don’t expect more than 2 years from any sheets.
